Mohair doll wigs handmade by Wendy Feidt

Welcome to my handmade mohair wig web site for antique dolls and reproduction antique dolls. I have been making my custom handmade mohair wigs for antique doll collectors and  top antique and  original reproduction doll artists since 1977, and what a joy it has been throughout the years helping you complete your doll with the perfect wig style. I started my business making wigs out of a small shoe box of english mohair, needles and fabric, and with my mothers help fashioned my first wig from that little box of mohair with my mothers encouragement. For many years my mother  collected fine antique dolls, sold antique dolls and repaired dolls for the public , and as a young adult I was able to enjoy each doll that came in for resale or what would be added to my mothers large collection, then I would study the doll wig.  My first attempt at wig making would lead to many years of trial and error, and lots of trips to the garbage and hundreds of dollars of  hair supply and wigs tossed out.  With the help of my clients ,they helped my wig making business get on its feet with encouragement and great advise along the way. Today I feel so thankful to have worked for some of the biggest reproduction doll artists that are now gone, they taught me so much. As an artist you can be stubborn and want to make what you want to make, but what I found is your customers are what help you grow and become what you are.      Through the years my work has been seen on the front covers of Doll Artisan Guild magazine, and Doll Reader. Many years ago I was honored with a drawing of myself and one of my original designed wigs in” Ripleys Believe It Or Not”, that lead to an article in Grit magazine, showing a photo of me sitting in my studio with my wigs. In the early 80’s, Mildred Seeley included one of my designs in her french doll books showing how to make a mohair wig, even though it wasn’t my wig making method, it still was such an honor showing one of my primitive wig designs of the time and giving my name out to the public as a wigmaker for dolls.  Some of you might already have some of my early wigs, which were signed with my maiden name Wendy Haugen.  Each wig I create is on a hand sewn cotton wig cap, which is fashioned on a bisque head to create a wonderful fitting wig for your doll, I do not work on styrofoam balls.    All mohair wigs are hand signed by me and dated by me, never do I make a wig and not sign and date it.  Over the years I have created 42 original mohair wig designs and many antique  variations, all in all, 63 designs in my portfolio of  wig drawings.    Please remember, my wigs are hand made and will vary slightly from the picture shown . I work with many styles of mohair off  many goats, young and old, and every goat has a different  style or texture of  mohair. I also work in english mohair, which I use only for certain sizes and designs.   When choosing your wig design, I also offer 100% silk  or double sided silk satin bows for the wigs ,which I hand sew onto each wig. If you do not want a bow added to your wig, you do not have to order one, it is only an option.     My long time wig representative and dear friend , Linda Essers , will also have a nice selection of my  wig styles at all the Gaithersburg Md. doll shows in 2012.  She will also take orders for all wig designs I make .  At the shows, Linda carries a complete wig picture album showing all of my current designs which you can order, so look for her at the Gaithersburg doll show, the show is held four times a year. Linda also carries handmade doll shoes she makes by hand, she also sells  doll accessories and antique dolls. The dates for this doll show are always shown in the Antique doll collector magazine.

After many years of making special wig designs for dolls, from the photos you send, I will no longer take custom wig orders from pictures you send me , unless the style is very similar to  a style I already make. I do make Schoenhut styles, and Shirley Temple, not all of these styles are shown for lack of having a doll model to show the design on.
